What happens when it rains on the lānai?
The short answer: the dinner moves under the roof and loses almost nothing. Every outdoor service we quote names its weather backup in writing — before the trade showers have their say.
The island’s two weathers
Maui is two climates sharing an island: leeward Wailea, Mākena, and Kāʻanapali run dry most of the year, while the North Shore and Upcountry stay green because they get rained on. Your backup plan depends on which Maui you are standing in — and the quote says which.
The standard backups
- The covered lānai — most Maui villas have one, and candlelight under a roof loses nothing
- Service shifted indoors with the table re-set by the crew
- Timing moves — a shower’s typical lifespan is twenty minutes
- For events: tenting coordinated with rentals where the property allows
For weddings specifically
The wedding-week contract names a backup per event: covered structure, tented lawn, or moved timing. Haiku Mill’s required tent above 22 guests exists for exactly this reason — the North Shore is honest about its rain and so are we.
