What kitchen does a private chef need?
The honest answer: less than you fear, more than a kitchenette. A full-size range, a real refrigerator, counter space, and a sink. Here is how Maui’s rental stock measures against that bar.
The passing grade
- Full-size range and oven (four burners minimum)
- A real refrigerator with shelf room for the day’s shop
- Counter space for plating your headcount
- Standard power and water — no special equipment needed
What gets declined
Hotel rooms and studios with a coffee maker and a minibar. A hot plate on a balcony. Anywhere the “kitchen” is a hallway with a microwave. We decline these not from preciousness but because the food would be worse — and you would pay full price for it.
How Maui’s stock measures up
Wailea Beach Villas, Hoʻolei, the Andaz residences, Makena Surf, the Kapalua villa complexes, and most of the Honua Kai–class condo stock pass easily — Maui’s luxury rental market was built around real kitchens. Kīhei and the condo belt vary more; a photo settles it.
If your kitchen is borderline
Tell us and we adapt honestly: menus that suit a smaller range, family-style over plated, a grill leaned on harder. The quote reflects what your kitchen can actually produce at the standard we will put our name on.
Questions, answered
Usually, yes — with a full-size range and smart coursing. Send a photo and the headcount; we answer plainly before any deposit.
The chef brings the kit that matters — knives, boards, plating tools. Specialty equipment for a specific menu is noted in the quote.
