The Maui beach wedding fantasy meets a state permit: DLNR’s Wiki system caps professional beach ceremonies at roughly 20–25 people including vendors, bans arches, chairs, and tents, and holds you to two hours. The good news: that is the perfect ceremony — and the reception it pushes onto land is our product.
The permit, plainly
Any professional-assisted beach wedding in Hawaiʻi needs a DLNR Wiki permit — fees run $0.10 per square foot with a $20 minimum, the window caps at two hours, and structures are banned. Makena Cove, Polo Beach, Kapalua Bay, and Ironwoods are the popular permitted sands. Roughly twenty people including your photographer and officiant.
The flow that works
- 4:30pm — ceremony on the sand, twenty of the closest, permit in hand
- 5:30pm — pūpū and cocktails at the villa or estate as the light peaks
- 7:00pm — the reception dinner, plated or family-style, steps from the shore but on private ground
Why the split is a feature
Couples who plan the split stop fighting the permit and start using it: the ceremony stays intimate and legal, the reception gets real food, real chairs, and a real kitchen. The beach gives you the photograph; the estate gives you the evening.
What we do not do
We do not cater on the public beach — no tables on the sand, no “technically portable” structures. Permit-compliant ceremony, private-ground reception. Your planner handles the permit; we handle dinner.
