The 20% line, legally

Hawaiʻi law (HRS §481B-14) requires that a mandatory service charge either go to staff as tip income or be conspicuously disclosed as covering other costs — and it may never be labeled a gratuity. Our disclosure wording follows that posture and is flagged REQUIRES LEGAL VERIFICATION until counsel locks final language; the number and its placement on its own line are already policy.

The GET line, accurately

Hawaiʻi’s general excise tax is 4.5% owed in all four counties; the maximum visible pass-on is 4.7120%, with county surcharges sunsetting 12/31/2030. You will never see the obsolete 4.166% figure here — if another operator quotes it, ask which year their rate card is from.

Why itemization matters

A blended “total” is where service charges become gratuities, taxes become margin, and quotes become invoices you did not agree to. Five lines, five meanings — the written quote is the confirmed total because you can audit every row.
